The 00’s
I can relate to many of your games from the aught’s. I suppose it means I ought to be playing them more.
- Asia Engulfed – I like the way it handles the Pacific theater, and the turn sequence.
- Manoeuvre – A bit abstract, but I like how each nation has different capabilities and how you can try to lay traps for your opponent.
- Wilderness War – A happy p500 choice, I really like how the French and the British have different problems
- Command and Colors Ancients – Another happy p500 choice, The command card system fits the era so well.
- Friedrich/Maria – A very elegant design that so nicely captures the war of position for the era.
Honorable Mentions:
Napoleons Triumph – I like how it uses a deterministic combat system and fog of war to create a compelling game. It was close to my top 5.
Warriors of God – The only thing more frustrating than your young leader dying unexpectedly is the old geezer hanging on in prison.
Hold the Line – I like it almost as much Command and Colors – but whew the scenarios can be unbalanced.
Twilight Struggle – I like to tease grognards that the era wasn’t called the Cold War for nothing. It was one of my happy p500 choice.
Judd – There was a lot to like about Empire of the Sun I just couldn’t ever could quite grasp it.
