Publisher – Victory Games
Victory Games kept me interested in gaming during the 80’s as life caught up with me. Notice that they frequently triggered a interest in the history so I had to get the books.
- Tokyo Express – I felt it nicely captured the feel of the night battles at Guadalcanal.
- Pax Britannia – Yes it was developed by and accountant and needs spreadsheet support. It is an interesting take on colonialism sold since I lost the game group that was interested in it. Reread my copy of Sidney Fay’s Origins of the World War (vol 1) which discussed the colonial competition as part of the Great Power conflicts.
- the Peloponnesian War – The switch side mechanic was a stroke of brilliance. Got me to buy a copy of Thucydides.
- Lee vs Grant – A great take on operational campaigns. Was only superseded by the Great Campaigns of the ACW. It also got me reading about Grant and the Overland campaign. Really liked Trudeau’s book.
- The Civil War – I’ve played this more than any other strategic Civil War games. Still my go to version. Does need a house rule on dumping leaders. I find requiring all leaders to be in command of a fighting unit to be helpful. My brother steered me to T. Harry Williams book “Lincoln and his Generals”
Honorable Mention – Vietnam – I liked it look and feel but I hard time getting into this one
